Gear reducer is a very important gear transmission product, and gear transmission is also one of the main forms of mechanical transmission. Currently, gear reducers are used in industrial sectors such as metallurgy, petrochemicals, mining, and transportation, which also use gears. However, due to the harsh working environment in which the gears operate, they are easily damaged and prone to malfunctions. According to statistics, 80% of faults in transmission machinery are caused by gears. The failure of gears will directly affect the safe and reliable operation of equipment, and even lead to the paralysis of the entire system. Therefore, the research on monitoring and fault diagnosis technology for the working status of gears is receiving increasing attention.
For a long time, extensive research has been conducted on the diagnostic methods of tooth root cracks, and many achievements have been made. The conventional diagnostic method is vibration spectrum analysis, which is based on traditional vibration theory. It uses diagnostic instruments to collect vibration data and waveforms, and then analyzes and diagnoses them to identify the cause and location of the fault. But the prerequisite for doing so is that the establishment of the fault model must be accurate enough to correctly identify the vibration signals under fault conditions. This method requires diagnostic personnel to have rich experience in fault diagnosis.
From the perspective of gear dynamics, the influence of crack depth on the natural frequency of gears was studied, and the results showed that the natural frequency can be used as a diagnostic indicator for gear crack faults. Meanwhile, it can be known from the literature that abnormal vibration of gears can trigger the natural frequency of the gears themselves. Therefore, if the natural frequency values of normal and cracked gears can be accurately calculated and extracted under the working conditions of the gears, it will have important practical significance for the fault diagnosis of gears.
